relax

Pastor Mark invited me into his office a few weeks ago. I honestly thought I was in trouble. It was a march to the principles office moment for me. I tried to quickly assess the possibilities. Didn't expect to hear what he told me.

"I don't know how to say this.....but Union Station Theatres are closing down. Effective in 1 week," he exclaimed.

Gotta admit I was shell-shocked. A little less than half our church attends Union Station on Sundays. It's our busiest. Our flagship location was closing its doors within 5 days.

Thankfully, the first thing I did not think about was me and what I'd do. I was recently hired on to pastor the Union Station location. What I did think about was: God's up to something here. This is an opportunity. This is a teaching moment. What does scripture have to say?

In Exodus 14, Moses has led 2 million Israelites out of Egypt, yet found themselves in a predicament: 600 Egyptian chariots on one side; the Red Sea on the other. What do you do when you're caught between an Egyptian army and the Red Sea?

Verse 15: But Moses told the people, "Don't be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today.....just stay calm."

So that's what we're doing. God is in control. The church is not a building, it's the people. Everything is going to be ok.

So that's what we've decided to do.
